In March 2017, Karli and Sean took a romantic trip south from Washington to Waco, Texas. While strolling across the expansive Waco Suspension Bridge, Sean dropped to one knee and popped the question.

Ever since they started dating, Karli and Sean had been getting together on Tuesdays to watch Fixer Upper, a HGTV show set in Waco, featuring the popular reality-show couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines. So naturally, it was the perfect proposal spot for the happy couple.

“When Karli threw her arms around my neck, she knocked the ring out of my hands over the water. It hit the ground and was bouncing around,” Sean says. “If you look at our pictures from that, I’m excited to be in engaged, but then I’m also really nervous that this ring was going to fall into the river.” Luckily, it did not.

Seattle residents Karli and Sean met in May 2015 at a Mariners game celebrating a friend’s birthday. Sean, a life-long baseball player, was fully invested in the game until Karli walked over.

“I think I asked, ‘Who’s winning?’ or something dumb like that just to start up a conversation,” Karli says.

On January 20, 2018, while surrounded by their loved ones, Karli and Sean tied the knot at Sodo Park, an event venue in downtown Seattle. Twinkling string lights and white drapes hung from exposed wooden beams, giving the venue a cozy, rustic atmosphere.

Karli paired her elegant, sheath wedding gown with ruby earrings and a pearl “y” necklace, designed by her jeweler sister-in-law. She carried the red tones from her earrings to her lipstick, her bouquet, and Sean’s tie. Sean donned a navy-blue two-piece suit with a rose boutonnière.

Karli and Sean surprised attendees with a choregraphed first dance to “Forever and Ever, Amen,” by Randy Travis, a gospel choir performance, and even a special order of Dick’s burgers.

“Our wedding was so focused about our friends and family,” Karli says. “We just wanted to throw them such a good party to celebrate with us.” Karli and Sean opted for an untraditional wedding guestbook—a white metal plate with “Forever and ever, amen” carved in the center that they custom-ordered from JDH Iron Designs, as seen regularly on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

A year later, the newlyweds are settled in Spokane where Karli works as a nurse and Sean in information technology. Their new home is by no means a “fixer upper” like the ones on the HGTV show, but there is still work to be done in the master bedroom and bath.

“We hope to add our flair and fixer upper ‘expertise’ to complete our charming house,” Sean says.
