Meet The Designer: Steven Moore

Planning a wedding adds stress not only for the bride, but also for her 'contacts' list. There's the florist, the cake decorator, the dress shop, the caterer, the venue…. If only there were an easier way!

Meet Steven Moore. He's a dress designer and maker, florist, artist, consultant, cake decorator and occasional wedding musician. His Fairhaven-based studio, Steven Moore Designs, prides itself as being a full service couture wedding and event planning business, providing all you need in one shop, while insuring it is unique to you and your desires.

"What we do is for the person who wants a unique, personalized wedding, with every detail well thought out and cared for," Moore says.

At Steven Moore Designs, there are wedding coordinators, who he says act as liaisons between the brides and groom, their families, the vendors and graphic designers who work on the save-the-dates, menus and invitations.

That leaves Moore open to doing what he really loves: designing the wedding and making it personal and perfect for the couple.

Moore's eye to detail and design provides him great insight while designing the perfect wedding gown, cake and floral arrangements. In fact, in 2009 Seattle Bride Magazine honored him with second place for his custom couture gowns.

"The fun part about my job is making everything different and really appealing and personalizing it to the couple," Moore says.

None of this is surprising for someone who has more than 16 years in the wedding business. Steven Moore Designs has been operating since 2005, but Moore has been at it a lot longer. His mother was a cake decorator and taught her son the art of cake at an early age. When Moore was only 12-years-old, he made his first wedding cake. At 14 he was playing piano at weddings and at 15 he taught himself to sew.

"Growing up around artistic tendencies, with my mom being an artist, inspired me to do my own thing," Moore says.

Moore, a Lakewood native, graduated with a communications degree from WWU in 2003. While pursuing that degree he continued designing cakes and custom gowns for brides. As his clientele grew Moore decided it was time to expand into something the likes of which the Bellingham area hadn't seen before, and Steven Moore Designs was born.

His beautiful and personal weddings are earning him attention at some of the highest levels: he's been featured in Seattle Bride, Santa Barbara Bride, Seattle Metropolitan Bride and Groom, Portland Bride and Groom and even Martha Stewart Weddings.

Although there are only a handful of people in the Pacific Northwest who do what Steven Moore Designs does, it's Moore's dedication to each wedding that really makes him stand out. His portfolio is a melting pot of colors and styles. With the bold reds, oranges and fuchsias, the tender whites and blues, the roses, lilies and orchids, the berries, figs and even artichokes it's no wonder he can't pick just one favorite.
